QR code clock-in that can't be faked from home

Show the site's QR code on a screen and staff scan it with their phone camera to clock in. The code changes every 30 seconds, so a photo of it is no use later.

Free for up to 10 people, with every feature. Not a trial.

The QR code tab for Leeds City Office in KiteClock.

How it works

  1. Open the site's code

Show the full-screen code on a screen or a kiosk at the site, or allow a printed poster.

  2. Staff scan it

Their phone camera opens the KiteClock staff app with the site's code.

  3. They're clocked in

The code becomes a 5-minute, single-use pass that clocks them in at that site.

A code that keeps changing

Each site has its own secret, and its code changes every 30 seconds. The current and the previous code are accepted, so a scan just as it changes still works.

Each code works once per person, so the same scan can't clock someone in twice or be passed around.

  • Rotates every 30 seconds
  • One use per person
  • On a screen or a kiosk

Printed posters, when a screen isn't practical

A fixed QR poster is off by default. Allow it per site when a screen isn't practical, knowing it's weaker than the changing code, and replace it at any time to stop old prints working.

Combine a poster with GPS inside the fence and a photo of it is useless away from the site.

  • Off unless you allow it
  • Replace a poster to cancel old copies
  • Pair with the fence for safety

Questions

Do staff need a QR scanner app?

No. They point their phone camera at the code, which opens the KiteClock staff app. On iPhone the link opens in Safari, so they may sign in there once.

Can someone photograph the QR code and use it later?

Not the screen version: it changes every 30 seconds and each scan becomes a pass that works once, for 5 minutes. A printed poster doesn't change, so pair it with GPS inside the fence.

Where do I show the code?

On any screen at the site, such as a monitor or a tablet, or on a KiteClock kiosk. Printed posters can be allowed per site.

Can I use QR codes and NFC tags together?

Yes. A clock-in policy can allow several ways to clock in, or require one.
